Compound Verb Phrases

Verb Phrase vs. Verb: Understanding the Difference

A verb phrase has a main verb and one more helping verb combined to make a verb phrase. Both the verb and the verb phrase define an action, but the basic difference between these is the formation of the sentence. Example:

  • I study French. (‘Study’ is the verb)
  • I am studying French (‘Am studying’ is the verb phrase)
