  • I am writing letters to the author.

Compound Verb Phrases

A compound verb phrase is the one that consists of various multiple words that are combined. It is a verb consisting of two or more words with the same subject and joined with a conjunction. The examples are:

Verb Phrase vs. Verb: Understanding the Difference

There is a vital difference between a verb and a verb phrase. A verb is just a single word that appears in a sentence and makes the sentence more meaningful. A verb phrase has a main verb and one more helping verb combined to make a verb phrase. Both the verb and the verb phrase define an action, but the basic difference between these is the formation of the sentence. Example:

  • I study French. (‘Study’ is the verb)
  • I am studying French (‘Am studying’ is the verb phrase)
